FUN ART—-Dragster Boy

“Vrooooom!”, 3D Resin, 9”x7”x7”

This little guy was fun to make, but it did present a few difficulties—mainly the smoke and dust. Sculpting dust isn’t so easy.

I built this in eight parts: the boy’s head, his body, his little car, the roof, the engine, the smoke from the engine, and finally the base.

Many of the pieces were especially tricky because sometimes parts come out in slightly incorrect sizes. These fit OK for the most part, but did require more filing and sanding than usual.

The origin of the image for this piece was the digital drawing you see below. When I first got my iPad and was teaching myself how to use its drawing programs I made several images just for practice. Dragster boy here was one of them. The inspiration for this piece was my longtime admiration for the work of Ed “Big Daddy” Roth. I loved looking at his work when I was growing up and I bought all of the model kits of wacky muscle cars and “weirdos” that he designed.
